We know that inviting a crew into your home to rip up your floors is a big commitment. It disrupts your routine, it can be noisy, and for a few days, your house might feel a little less like "home" and a little more like a construction site.
At Easton Flooring, we believe the best way to reduce that stress is transparency. We treat your home like our own, which means we want you to know exactly what is happening, when it’s happening, and what you can do to prepare.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at a typical installation timeline.
Before We Arrive: The Logistics
A smooth installation starts before our van even pulls into the driveway. Here are a few things to consider to help us hit the ground running:
- Access & Parking: We will need a spot to park our van close to the entry point so we can unload tools and heavy materials safely.
- Respecting Your Space: We treat your property with care from the moment we arrive. We also take measures to protect your walls and existing trim during the load-in process.
- Furniture: If you’ve opted for our furniture moving service, please clear off small items (lamps, photos, breakables) from tables and shelves. If you are handling the moving yourself, please ensure the room is completely clear before our arrival time.
- Temperature Control: For materials like hardwood and LVP, the indoor temperature matters! Please keep your home’s temperature consistent (around 65-75°F) for 48 hours before and during installation to ensure the product acclimates properly. Temperature in your home should continue to maintain a 60-80 degree temperature range throughout the year to prevent damage to the floor.

The Timeline: A Typical 3-Day Project
Note: Every home is unique. A single room might take one day, while a whole-house installation will take longer. However, the phases of the work usually follow this flow.
Day 1: Demolition & Prep (The "Loud" Day)
- What happens: We remove your old carpet, pad, tile, or wood. We also carefully remove baseboards (if that’s part of your package) to ensure they can be re-installed or replaced seamlessly.
- The Crucial Step: Once the old floor is gone, we inspect the subfloor. We look for uneven spots, loose nails that cause squeaks, or damage. We spend a significant amount of time preparing the subfloor because a flat subfloor is the secret to a floor that doesn't creak or separate later. See our article about why this is so important.
- What to expect: This is the loudest day. You will hear hammers, sawing, planing and sanding. Dust is inevitable during demo, but we use dust-containment measures to minimize it as much as possible.
Day 2: The Transformation Begins
- What happens: We begin laying your new flooring. Whether it’s clicking together floating planks or nailing down hardwood, you’ll start to see your vision come to life.
- The Process: We carefully rack out the boards, ensuring the grain patterns and colors are mixed beautifully so you don't have patches of dark or light spots. We measure and cut around vents, door jambs, and corners with precision.
- What to expect: Much less dust than Day 1. You'll likely be able to walk on the new sections of floor by the end of the day (depending on the material used).
Day 3: Finishing Touches & Cleanup
- What happens: We install the transition strips (where your new floor meets existing tile or carpet). We re-install your baseboards or install new trim and finally do a thorough cleanup.
- The Walk-Through: We don't just pack up and leave. We want to make sure you are thrilled. We’ll walk you through the care instructions for your specific floor and answer any final questions.
- What to expect: A home that is cleaner than when we arrived, and a beautiful new floor ready for your family.
"No Surprises" Communication
We know horror stories of contractors who disappear or hit you with hidden fees. That’s not us.
- Daily Check-ins: We’ll let you know exactly what was accomplished each day and the plan for tomorrow.
- Open Honesty: If we find a surprise in the subfloor (like old water damage hidden under carpet), we stop and show you immediately. We explain the options and costs before moving forward. No hidden fees, ever.

Keeping Your Family Safe (Kids & Pets)
As a family-run business with children and pets of our own, safety is our top priority. A construction zone can be tempting for curious kids and pets, but it has hazards like sharp tools, nails, and heavy materials.
- Pets: We love dogs! But for their safety (and to prevent them from escaping while we haul materials in and out), please secure them in a separate room, a crate, or at a neighbor's house during work hours.
- Kids: Please help us keep little ones away from the work zone. Even during our lunch breaks, tools may be set down, and we want to ensure everyone stays safe.
